It's the most wonderful time of the year ...
It's been a while since I posted ... Busy with everything ... So busy that the pool's green and my training for the San Antonio Marathon is behind schedule ...
Without further delay ... More random thoughts on the world of sports, culture, etc.
- It's the most wonderful time of the year. Football is here and the world is full of cheer. Hit the hook again ... It's the most wonderful time of the year. The Badgers are back and they don't have a proven QB. But, they could win a bunch of games and challenge for the Big 10 title.
It's a big if. To challenge, they need AD to stay healthy and productive. Somebody needs to step into the number 2 spot since Smith is out for good ... If the sexual assault charge won't get you, then the heart condition will. The LBs need to play like college kids ... If the DBs are making tackles on running plays - Bielema can go back to Manhattan, Kansas that is. We've discuss the QB situation ... When can Barry get a blue chip QB to commit?
Yet, through these questions and others that weren't addressed here, I think the Badgers will step up to the mic. It's a lot like 1998 when the Cardinal and White went to Pasadena - not John Travolta's Pasa-get-down-Dena - but the beautiful Los Angeles suburb.
I think the Badgers beat Central Florida (O'Leary's a good coach, but he won't beat a Big 10 team in his debut. If he does, the Irish should reconsider); UNLV (revenge is sweet although Brimmer is tough); Arizona (again, Stoops hasn't proven himself as a head man and his brother didn't win everything his first year and OU had better talent than the Wildcats); Penn State (God Bless Joe Paterno, but he should be thinking at the early bird special at Denny's at 4:45 instead of the kickoff of a college football game); and Illinois (it's a basketball school).
That means Bucky is 5-0 going to the Horseshoe and UW pretty much owns the sweater-vested Jim Tressel. After the battle of flagship state universities in key swing states (think any candidates will be in Columbus on 10/9?), Bucky continues a two game torture test in Indiana where it's alway 1950. That is, everything is 1950 except Joe Tiller's offense. Wisconsin splits and is 6-1 with Northwestern coming to Camp Randall for homecoming.
Wisconsin is 7-1 as the best running back combination in the nation comes to Camp Randall. It hate Northwestern so much I can't write about them. It's a great academic school, but any school that had Gary Barnett as a head coach needs to examine their HR practices. Wisconsin plays Minnesota tight and takes back the axe.
After two weeks off - I mean an open date and a trip to East Lansing - the Badgers are 9-1. That makes the trip to Iowa City mean everything - a trip to a BCS game and a share of the conference title. Michigan will stub its toe somewhere. They're not as good as last year. Braylon Edwards is tough, but a receiver doesn't win titles. Ohio State is good, but they won't beat everybody because they're going to be too busy deciding who to vote for. Iowa can't win anything but a blue ribbon at the county fair for best looking pig.
I'm going to say the Badgers are 10-1 with a trip to the BCS (maybe not the Rose Bowl) and AD gets to visit NYC for the Heisman ceremony. That is, if everybody stays healthy.
- The new Levitra commercial featuring the woman talking about her man during a Levitra session is very well done. Debate continues on the content and it's influence on culture in America, but the actress does a great job capturing the emotion in an inviting, sensual way.
- This ESPN 25 stuff is awesome. Just like Levitra, it's left a mark on our culture and communications. The talent that's gone through Bristol is a who's who of sports and entertainment. Full disclosure: Yes, I've collected checks from the mouse, but that doesn't mean I can't compliment people on a job well done.
- The Braves. So much for the end of their run. Bobby Cox is a pretty good manager, eh?
- Weren't the Olympics more fun when we could cheer against the Eastern Bloc countries? Now, it's hard to cheer against Russia since we know the hardships the people lived under for so many years. And, how do you cheer rogue, terrorist nations?
